The nephrologist who supported you determined that your kidneys are no longer able to ensure the cleaning of the impurities in your blood? The kidneys must be replaced with dialysis machines. The dialysis machine will take the blood by puncture in one location and return it to a place dispute once cleaned.

Dialysis

Dialysis sessions last about 4 hours and take place three times a week. They require vascular access which can be made :

  • either a catheter with two branches :
    • There is a device consisting of a vein usually or prosthesis (synthetic material) which is located under the skin punctures accessible to practice the dialysis
    • The implementation is done under local anesthesia as an outpatient
  • either an arteriovenous fistula :
    • There is a device consisting of a vein usually or prosthesis (synthetic material) which is located under the skin punctures accessible to practice the dialysis
    • The procedure is performed mostly on regional anesthesia for a short hospitalization
    • It takes 6 weeks on average before the fistula is usable hence the need for intervention as soon as your nephrologist recommend it
    • Usually a venous Doppler ultrasonography or venography will ask for before surgery. It must be done by a specialist customary for this type of examination
